The U.S. commercial gaming industry revenue in January 2022 reached $4.5 billion*.  While details of exact implementations of Lean and Six Sigma may be proprietary, there is ample evidence that the use of Lean and Six Sigma in the gambling and casino business is alive and well. We’ll look at the use of Lean at Harrah’s and other organizations and provide examples of Lean Six Sigma jobs for casino operations. We’ll finish with a video on the casino business.

Early Use of Lean at Harrah’s

 

An article titled “Harrah's gamble on lean techniques pays off for casinos” from Knox News.

Brad Hirsch, then vice president of operations at Harrah's Hotel and Casino in Tunica, executed 63 Lean events with his team at two casinos in 2009. They documented more than $3 million in savings, substantial improvements in customer service metrics, and significant improvements in employee satisfaction.

Use of Lean at CashCode

 

NOTE: Crane Payment Solutions is the parent company of CashCode, NRI, and Money Controls branded products and is a world leader in cash handling solutions used by many industries, including casinos. It was formed in 2006 by combining the CashCode and NRI brands.

The CashCode facility, north of Toronto, is the leader among the Crane segments in regard to Lean manufacturing.
